First Degree Heart Block Can Be Diagnosed At A Young Age?

hello, my brother is only 22 and a recent ECG suggests he has a first degree heart block. He has always lead a routined life and is slim and otherwise 'healthy'. About 15 months ago he suddenly collapsed and lost consciousness and also lost his bladded control. That was only for a few mins and the doctor next door couldnt find anything wrong with him. A casual ECG test now suggests first degree heart block however to confirm it doctor has advised another eco cardiogram. Please tell me ECG reports can go wrong sometimes because I cant believe someone so young can be diagnosed with such a life risking disease.

Welcome to HCM,

First degree heart blocks are quite common in general population,

This episode which he experienced is known as 'stoke adams syndrome'

24hr Holter ecg monitoring can accurately diagnose the cause of the block

Electrophysiological studies can accurately estimate the conduction path disturbances.

Radiofrequeny ablation techniques can ablate the blocks.

Drugs like isoprotenol also helps to overcome the block and help to increase the heart rate.

Consult an expert cardiologist for further help.

Thank you
