Found Cyst On Heart. History Of Having GI Problems Followed By Removal Of Colon, Bad Lung Infection. Any Ideas?
A cyst on the heart was found on my brother by a test his GI doctor. He is going to make an apt with a cardiologist. Could you please tell me what a cyst on the heart is and what causes it. He has been having GI problems and previously had a completely removal of his colon and is now facing the placement of a colostomy. He also recently had a bad lung infection. The colon had previously collapsed causing removal. The GI physician found the cyst and told him he should have the cyst taken care of before the colostomy. Thank you very much.
Most cysts of the heart are pericardial cysts and tend to be a congenital abnormality. Most of the time you dont have to operate on them urgently or at all if they are not causing symptoms. He will likely need an ultrasound of the heart to better define the cyst; a cardiac MRI can also be helpful.
