Frequent Breakout Of Profound Sweat. Have Bicuspid Aortic Valve Disease. Prescribed Diuretic For Water Retention. Other Treatment?

I have bicuspid aortic valve disease and will frequently break out in a profound sweat sometimes in an air conditioned room. This is extremely embarrassing in a professional work environment, especially during a meeting with colleagues.

I'm slightly overweight, but my cardiologist believes that it is due to water retention for which he just prescribed me a diuretic. Do you have any other ideas for the cause and what can be done to minimize the incidents of sweating?

Cardiologist 's  Response
Dear Sir/ Madam
Thanks for writing to us.
1. Bicuspid aortic valve itself does not predispose to such episodic profuse sweating. Neither the significant damage (obstruction or leakage) to aortic valve in this condition predisposed to such episodes.
2. You have not mentioned your profile (age, gender, comorbidites etc.). However the likely etiology for such episodes should be related to either autonomic nervous system dysfunction or hormonal changes.
I would recommend you to see a good internist (medical specialist) and get evaluated. He will guide you to a neurologist or endocrinologist as per the need.
Sincerely
Sukhvinder

Cardiologist Dr. Anantharamakrishnan's  Response
Hi friend,
Welcome to Health Care Magic

See a Cardiologist / get yourself examined / an ECHOcardiogram for LV function and area of the valve is necessary...
If it is normal, ‘cold’ sweating is generally due to anxiety / relaxation techniques, yoga, biofeedback, at times anxiolytics can help

Take care
Wishing all well
God bless
Good luck
