Frequent Nose Bleeding, Tastes Blood Running Down Throat. Is Silver Nitrate Way More Painful Than A Chemical Cauterization?

I have had frequent nose bleeds since I was little. My most recent one took more than 45 minutes to subside. I get them sometimes a couple times a week and others weeks in between but regardless they always come out of no where with no warning, and I can taste the blood running down my throat. I want to look into getting it cauterized and I have heard there are multiple types? The silver nitrate way seems to be more painful than a chemical cauterization? Are the results different depending on the type you do?

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hello!
since you have been having these nose bleeds from many years it is advisable to meet a ENT specialist who will look into the cause of bleed and treat you accordingly.
Generally cauterisation is done for bleeds which are small and can be controlled easlily. Silver nitrate is chemical cauterisation which is done on OPD basis and doesn't hurt.Other is electrical which is done in the OT.What ever the method it is best determined following a through examination. If have been bleeding for long period there are good chances your hemoglobin has dropped so my advice would be that u meet ENT specialist immediately.

I hope you found my response to be helpful and informative. If you have any additional concerns I would be happy to address them.
