Got Root Canal Done. What Can Be Done About The Pain? Why Is The Area Annoying?

i am glad you wrote in, first of all i would like to inform you that the pain following the 2nd sitting for root canal treatment is sometimes temporary, but if in case the pain persists beyond 5-7 days, then it is advisable to do a re-RCT on the same tooth as well as check the surrounding teeth for infection.
i assume your dentist has prescribed you an analgesic for relieving the pain, but as i mentioned, if pain does not subside even after taking a painkiller, then the tooth might need to be re-treated.
also, the rough surface is due to the tooth cutting which is done during or after the root canal treatment to make space for a crown, do not worry, crown will cover your tooth and take care of this problem well.

You may be experiencing pain and discomfort because root canal therapy is invasive and it is common to develop inflammation around the tooth from the procedure. Some material could have come out the end of the root and has caused pressure to build up in this area. This generally goes away with time and why you were given the anti-inflammatory medication. Best idea is to get an xray to see if there is an infection still present. The tooth feels rough because there is a hole in the center of it which was sealed with temporary material. The crown on it will make it feel smooth and more like natural tooh.

As per your query, it seems second sitting for Root canal Treatment was of final step where your tooth has been packed (obturated) with inert material. And thats why you have been called for Capping purpose.
Pain after final sitting is usually transient and should disappear within a week with due course of antibiotics and painkillers which are important here.
If pain persists for more than a week, then x-ray has to be done for over extended filling or recurrent infection which is to be treated immediately after diagnosis so as to get faster relief.
Use of painkillers only wouldn't suffice as Antibiotics are necessary if there is residual infection.
You are feeling rough surface on back of your tooth because it is actually rough & that is due to tooth cutting while making straight access to root canal of the same tooth.
After capping you wont feel any rough surface, so don't worry about it. Just avoid chewing of hard food items from affected side till pain completely subsides & crown placement is done.

Pain after root canal treatment indicates few remnants still left in the affected tooth which need to be clean.

So i would suggest you visit back to your dentist and get thorough clinical examination and x-ray of the same tooth and adjacent teeth to be done to rule out the cause of pain and take a symptomatic treatment,if pain is in the same tooth ,it needs re-root canal treatment.

According to your history i can suspect some remnant of the infected pulp tissue has left unexplored during the root canal procedure or there is a missed canal due to which the infection has gone worse and spread to the underlying tissues.

such tooth needs to be evaluated by x ray examination and acordingly root canal can be re scheduled.

pain killers will give temporary relief , better get the tooth examined by a dentist.

rough surface on the tooth is due to the tooth preparation or cutting done for placement of crown which can be levelled up.

During the second sitting of your root canal treatment you had the obturation done that is filling the canals with inert material.
Sometimes after the obturation ther can be pain for 2 to 3 days due to periapical extension of some cleaning material , it will be corrected in 2 to 3 days, continue with medicine.
But if it persist visit dentist and get it checked it can be due to improper cleaning of the canals or improper obturation , get it corrected before the capping.
Maintain oral hygiene.

i advice you to get an x-ray of the tooth to identify the condition of the tooth.check whether the biomechanical preparation ie,the pulp extirpation has done properly within the pulp canal.the infected vital pulp if not completely removed can cause pain ,irritation and burning sensation.
if the pain persist even after taking the medicine,ask your dentist to go for re-rct.
also check for any perforation or ledge fomation occured during the procedure.
please do not go for capping,if the pain do not subside.
the rough surface at the back of tooth can be due to plaque or calculus deposits.
it can be due to any kind of instumentation too.
get your teeth professionally cleaned.
the rough surface can be overcomed by capping.

After completion of root canal, there could be pain for one or two days. But before you go for capping, there should be no pain at all. You should not take any medication before going for capping as medicines will subside the pain and the success of root canal treatment cannot be assessed.
Your dentist should take X - rays to check whether the root canal is properly done. The rough and uneven surface which you feel at the back of your tooth will overcome by capping but make sure there should be no pain.

I have read your problem. I thing some infected part of pulp must be left in canal thats why you are not felling comfortable. You can always ask for some more sittings till the infection becomes zero.Donot take only analgesic but in addition to that some good antibiotic , b-complex should also take.Go to the ENDODONTISTS clinic,he or she is the rigth person who guide you better.For roughness ,it is because of temporary filling, after cap you would not find any roughness. Now a days singal sitting rootcanal tretment is also possible with wave one system along with LASER ,results are very good with this system.

I went through your history & would like to tell that ideally root canal is done in 3 sittings including:--
-access opening
-biomechanical preparation
-obturation
But if you go for single visit root canal then there are some chances of leaving necrotic pulp which may later cause pain.Its better you get an IOPAR done of same tooth & show it your dentist for knowing shortcoming.If there is some failure in RCT then you need to go for Re-RCT.
Meanwhile you start with course of amoxi-clav 625 twice a day along with zerodol-sp thrice a day along with multivitamin capsule once daily.
