Had Abnormal EKG With Underwired Bra On. EKG Was Not Normal Without Underwired Bra. Uggestions?

Hi! I am a registered nurse and had an ekg Monday. I had an underwire bra on and the tech did not have me remove it, The ekg was abnormal. I went for a repeat the next day with different tech and no bra and was normal sinus rhythm. Can underwires interfere with the conduction of the test? My GP says metal and ekg leads dont mix.

Hi,
Thanks for writing in with an inportant practical question.

Your GP might be right as metal and ekg leads are not supposed to cause any artifactual errors in EKG recording.

There are many smaller details affecting the pick up of electric signals. They can be due to improper contact of lead with body, not enough conduction gel to pick good signals or slight errors in postition of leads.

You make consult your doctor and go for a higher test (echocardiography) in necessary.

Hope this helps.
