Hello,
thank you for asking your question.
It sounds awful but 10% of all pregnancies end within the first 12 weeks. There are so many things that can happen during this time - the fetus is very vulnerable to all sorts of things. If one thing doesn`t go right it can influence other things developing. The real cause for the so-called
missed abortion you had, might never be found. Common causes may be chromosome disorders, all sorts of reasons for high thrombi-
embolism risks ( are there any heart attacks,
thrombosis, miscarriages in your family?), and sometimes infections (TORCH -
Toxoplasmosis, other,
Rubella, Cytomegaly, Herpes)
Lots of women go on to have healthy pregnancies later on. Should a women ever have two or more consecutive miscarriages/ missed abortions - then one should think of testing for chromosome aberrations and risk of thrombio-embolism (for instance factor V deficiency, MTHFR
Mutation)
I know it doesn`t help or reassure you at this moment because the feeling of loss is so deep but there was something not okay - and it`s better it happened so soon in
pregnancy and not later. This comment is not what you want to hear right now but is very true, Something was wrong and that`s why the pregnancy didn`t develop. Main thing is to see if one can find any reason - mostly the doctors won`t check everything right now but if you have a lot of thrombosis, heart attacks or strokes in your family in people under the age of 50 tel your doctor he /she might want to check for genetic risks of thrombi-embolism.
All the best,
Kind regards,
JR
