Had Davinci Hysterectomy. Had Allergic Reactions. Diagnosed With Chronic Ideopathic Hives. Related To Surgery?

ten days after my davinci hysterectomy, I had a serious allergic reaction which left me hospitalized for 6 days. a consulting allergist still has no idea what caused the reaction. I have now been diagnosed with chronic ideopathic hives. I am getting a second opinion from another allergist in june. no-one, other than my gyn surgeon, has even mentioned that it night be related to my surgery, which boggles my mind. any thoughts dr. grief? Many thanks, Kate

Hi ,
Thanks for writing in.
The chronic idiopathic urticaria as the name suggests no specific etiology.
Hysterectomy has no real significance in this type of urticaria.
Some cases do occur after removal of ovaries due to hormonal changes.
Allergy specialist may perform patch /prick test to know the nature of antigens.
Hope this helps.
