Had Extremely Sore Throat, Ear Ache, Problem Swallowing, Patch On Tonsil. What To Do?

Hi, I had an extremely sore throat and earache on the left side last week. It hurt to swallow my own saliva . I visited the ent who scoped and said she saw a small white patch on my tonsil . I m taking 875 mg amoxicillin for ten days and then I see her again. If the spot is not gone she said she would do a biopsy. Needless to say I m very scared it could be tonsil cancer. I am a smoker. I have no lumps in my neck but do feel like there is something caught in my throat on that side. She said for now we are treating it as an infection but I m concerned she knows something and didnt tell me. I m thinking the worst and VERY stressed over this. Any information would be helpful! Thank you!

Hello

Welcome in H.C.M.

I have gone through your query regarding sore throat with lump in neck and not getting relief by antibiotics.

Considering the above story of your illness it appears that lesion of your left tonsil and lump on neck are related to each other, secondarily your problem is confined to left side only therefore confirmation of lesion is must. It is unusual for infective lesion to involve one tonsil only ( tonsillitis is usually bilateral)

For confirmation of real pathology going on biopsy appears to be necessary here, So it is my suggestion to follow your doctor's advice for proper treatment.

Regards.
