Had Gum Surgery. Noticed White Thick Covering. Not Able To Brush. Help?

Hi, I was wondering what post op care of gum surgery is? They are peeling with a white thick covering and still unable to brush the site after 24 hours. The assistant who helped in the procedure didn't inform me of much. I am nervous I will get some sort of an infection not being able to take care of my teeth the way I want too,and also having wisdom teeth being pulled in a few days. Please help, thank you.

Hi,
Thanks for the query,
As you had a gum surgery, so following precautions you should take-
No vigorous rinsing, drinking through a straw, or spitting for 3 days so the blood clot will not be disturbed.
Slight bleeding is normal for several hours following surgery. If persistent bleeding occurs place a wet teabag on the involved area and apply direct pressure for 15-20 minutes.
Do not eat by the surgical area for 1 week.Avoid acidic and crunchy foods. Drink plenty of fluids.
Do not use tobacco or drink alcohol as these will delay healing.
After 24 hours of surgery, start warm saline rinses 3 times a day.
After one week, carefully brush the teeth while avoiding the gums in the area of surgery. The gums and lower parts of the teeth should be cleaned with a dampened piece of cotton.
After gum surgery, sensitivity of teeth develops so you can use sensodyne tooth paste.
If a periodontal dressing is placed then it should remain in place for 1 week.
Take your prescribed medication.
This will not pose any problem with your extraction of wisdom tooth.
take care.

hi..
thanks for the query...
please donot be bothered about any white thick covering... its absolutely normal and is observed in every gum surgery...
don't brush over the surgical site for atleast 3-4 days... just make sure that you brush other unaffected areas properly...
just do chlorhexidine rinses twice daily after meals... and warm saline rinses 6-7 times a day....
as you will visit your dentist after a week or whenever for removal of sutures, he will clean your area properly and will remove the thick covering... please don't do it yourself... you can switch to normal brushing afterwards by the toothbrushing method as told by your dentist...
take care...

White thick covering post gum surgery will be formation of granulation tissue.

I would advice you to get a thorough clinical evaluation done.

Apply mucopain gel on the affected area.

To improve gum health, vitamin c as well as folic acid supplements has to be administered.
