Had Intercourse. Having Pregnancy Symptoms Such As Fatigue, Sore Breasts And Some Discharge. Had Mirena IUD. Pregnant?

I had intercourse on August 3rd. I have been experiencing pregnancy symptoms such as fatigue, sore breasts and some discharge, but I have had the Mirena IUD since November 2010. I took a home pregnancy test yesterday and the result was positive. When might I test positive if i am pregnant? I have not had any menstrual bleeding since the device was inserted.

Hi,
You would test positive 2-3 weeks after the intercourse if it happened to fall during your ovulation period. You may also get a second confirmation through a serum beta-hCG test as this is more sensitive and specific. You should also have a trans-vaginal sonogram to look for the device and also the location of the gestational sac and see a specialist for further management. The IUD should be working until now but, the effect may dwindle as time progresses especially with an overweight person as the hormonal demands would be more. Hope this helps.
