Had Lipid Panel Done. Can Any Online Doctor Help In Reading The Result?

Hi, I am a 53 year old female. Just had a lipid panel done as part of my yearly physical. My total cholesterol is 212mg/dl, HDL is 122 mg/dl and LDL is 80 mg/dl. Should I be concerned about the high HDL? Triglycerides are 51 mg/dl if that makes a difference. Thanks for your response!

hi there..you have not mentioned anything about your existing health problems. I will consider that you dont have any history of illness and not suffering from HTN/DM. Your total cholesterol, LDL, and triglycerides are with in normal limits. Now coming to your HDL, i have to congratulate u for this. High HDL is very much protective for heart beyond doubt. Normal HDL levels is 60 md/dl. Recent studies on cholesterol and heart disease have suggested that increase of 4mg/dl of HDL level results in a 10% decrease in risk of adverse coronary events. Just remember this HDL is highly desirable cholesterol and LDL is Lethally dangerous Cholesterol....wish u good health..
