Had Referral Due To Polycystic Ovaries. Will It Cause Problem In Future Of Pregnancy Or Cancer?

I recently had a referral due to polycystic ovaries. I was the last patient of the day and the whole consultation lasted about 5 minutes were i was given very little information about pcos and not told anything about the effects on fertility or about weight loss . There was also no exam done or scan done on myself. I was basically told to go on the pill or do nothing it was up to me. I m concerned because I understand that ovarian cancer has very similar symptoms, my mother had trouble getting pregnant without fertility treatments, found with abnormal cells when she was in her 30 s, went into premature menopause when she was barely 40. Also my grandmother died of breast cancer and my aunt has breast cancer. I want to know is it worth getting a second opinion?

Hi !
Thank you for your query.

Dear madam,

Looking into what you are saying its not possible to make a diagnosis of Polycysic ovaries like that without even doing a USG abdomen. Patients having PCOS are known to suffer from fertility issues , are obese, excessive hair on face , alopecia , irregular menses . so, it involves lot of things .

You concern is justified as with such family history you can be predisposed for malignancy but nothing can be said without evaluation.

I would suggest you to consult an expert gynaecologist for your evaluation and if you get diagnosed with PCOS get in touch with endocrinologist for resolving your issues.

If you have any further queries feel free to ask.
Wish you good health.
Take care.
