Had Surgery And Ended With Wound Infection. Had Allergic Reaction To Antibiotics. Hands And Legs Are Peeling. Suggest?
I had surgery and ended up with a wound infection. I had an allergic reaction to 3 different antibiotics. I left the hospital and now my hands, arms, and legs are peeling. My legs are burning with the peeling now and I have been out of the hospital for 2 weeks now. Is this a normal reaction to having an allergic reaction to antibiotics?
Hi, Thanks for writing to us. Allergic reaction to drug is not a common phenomenon. However in few patients a severe allergic reaction can be seen even to most common and safe antibiotics. Right now, you must discontinue the offending drugs. Apply topical steroids and take tablet cetirizine. Sometimes a course of oral steroids and antibiotics is required if the lesions are severe or not regressing. I would definitely advise you to meet your dermatologist as early as possible as sometimes drug reaction can be severe. Hope this helped.
