Had Wisdom Teeth Extracted. Having Pus And Pain Around The Stitches. Normal To Have Pus At This Stage?
Hi, I had my 3 wisdom teth extracted 2 days ago. There was a nerve wrapped around my lower wisdom tooth and this is the one causing the most pain. I expected it to be painful but I am worried that I see pus around the stitches. It also tastes no so good. Is this normal to have pus at this stage or at all. Thank you. Grainne
pus around the extracted teeth is not normal.it indicates potential infection there, which if not treated, can effect other surrounding spaces and teeth.
you can revisit your dentist once to get it examined clinically. Also after evaluation if required start new course of antibiotics.
Meanwhile do antiseptic mouth rinses and warm saline gargle. this should help.
Hi Welcome to HCM forum As per your details, it seems there is a dry socket. Consult dentist for irrigation of socket with betadine and place a ZOE dressing. Maintain good oral hygiene, use antiseptic mouthwash. Do warm saline rinses after every meal for a week. Follow antibiotic prescription for 3 days. Take care
dear Grainne, the pus you are seeing is not at all good.you are having ailment called stitch abscess most commonly caused by staphylococcus or streptococcus infections.kindly start with an antibiotic and analgesic, get your stitches removed immediately. next time whenever you go for stitches always take an extra care to maintain proper oral hygiene.if you again face the same problem irrespective of your maintenance of good oral hygiene, kindly go for a blood glucose test.
It is not normal to have pus at the extraction site, according to your symptoms i suspect that you have developed a severe infection at the extraction site can be due to food lodgement. I would encourage you to visit the concerned Dentist and get the sutures removed clean the socket with betadine and lukewarm saline, place a zoe dressing. You avoid eating from the affected site for some days. Maintain a good oral hygiene, and follow the post extarction instructions given by the Dentist properly.
thank you friend for the query having an infection or pus in an extracted tooth wound is not normal at all. you please visit your dentist and get the stitches removed. take antibiotics and analgesics for at least 5 days. get your wound clean and also ask him to give you zinc oxide dressings and please try to maintain your oral hygeine and always follow the post extraction instructions carefully. hope to see you in best of your health and spirits
