Has Headache With High BP. IV Labetalol Helped. Taking Advil. Could PFO Be The Cause?
My son, age 44, has had episodes of sudden onset extreme headache accompanied by rise in B/P as high as 230/130. His normal pressure is 100-110/60-70. IV Morphine didn't touch the headache or B/P but IV Labetalol did bring it down to 140s/90s. He was then given Benadryl and Inapsine IV which resulted in sleep, lowered B/P, and much improvement in headache. He has a headache all the time for which he takes Advil . These are sais to be post concussion syndrome headaches. Could PFO be contributing to this problem? He is otherwise healthy.
Hi and thanks for the query, from what you describe, there are probably high fluctuations of blood pressure. These very high fluctuations make formal exclusion of a particular condition inn the adrenal gland called the phaechromocytoma. This is a classical tumor of the adrenal gland, accompanied by excessive secretion of particular hormones causing excessive contraction of arteries and raised blood pressure. I suggest you consult your primary care physician or measurement of Vanyl Mandeiic acid in urine and an MRI. Other conditions like renal artery stenosis must also be carefully be considered. I suggest you book an appointment with your internist. Thanks and best regards, Luchuo, MD.
