Has Sunburn With Blisters On Shoulders, Severe Itching. Took Coloidal Oatmeal Bath, Cool Shower, Benedryl. Relief?

My son has a sunburn with some blisters on the top of his shoulders but is complaining of severe itching in the sunburn area, his back, chest and shoulders. He has taken a coloidal oatmeal bath, several cool showers, and I have given him Benedryl and treated the burn with egg whites which seemed to help the most. Is there anything else I could/should do? Is the severe itching normal or should I take him to see a doctor?

Hi,

Thanks for writing here.

Your child is suffering from photo dermatitis.

Itching is quite common in this disorder.

Continue with benadryl.

Ask him to avoid sun exposure.

Use loose cotton clothes.

Application of steroid cream like mometasone is required to stop itching.

Hope this will solve your problem.Take care.
