Have 33% Heart Function. Which Institute To Approach?

My lady friend is 51 and a smoker. She just got diagnosed with a heart functioning at only 33%.
She is unemployed and essentially homeless with no medical coverage. From what I have read she has only about 3 to 8 years to live. I was thinking of asking Loma Linda Medical Center to look at her. Or UC Irvine Medical Center in Santa Ana. Any suggestion? Please help. YYYY@YYYY

Hi friend,
Welcome to Health Care Magic

The features sound bad, but not very bad...there is hope...
It is very difficult to get things done without money or insurance – you ought to search for philanthropic institutes and/or medical centres looking for volunteers for research?
Social support organisations in your area may give clues and/or placement...

Take care
Wishing speedy recovery
God bless
Good luck

Allergist and Immunologist Dr. Muhammad Ijaz Nasir's  Response
Thanks for your query. Prognosis of disease and life span can only be predicted in cancer patients.
33% cardiac dysfuntioning can be treated and life span can be increased, but for this I need to know the Echocardiographic reports and other blood biochemistry tests like
•     Lipid profile in particular serum cholesterol and serum triglyserides
•     Renal function test particularly blood urea and creatinine test.
•     Weight of patient
•     Blood pressure
Meanwhile I would suggest her to get her B.P check immediately from some local doctors
Few suggestions which I like to give her are as follow
•     Keep B.P under control
•     Reduce weight
•     Take plenty of fibrous food
•     Take sodium free diet
•     Stop smoking immediately and do light walk
•     She also needs to take some diuretics , Simvastatin ,long acting aspirin and some antidiabetics if there are signs of Diabetes Mellitus
I am sure that by acting upon my advice she can improve her conditions and her life span as well.
I will again request to kindly let me know her reports which I suggested.
Hoping that you will get benefit from my advice.
My prayers are with you.
Thanks and best regards.

Thanks for your question

Having 33% Ejection Fraction (heart Function) means her heart pumping action, which is normally above 55%, has certainly decreased to significant level. but this is due to coronary artery disease or due to cardiomyopathy is still to ruled out.
And having known that she is enemployed and homeless, puts her at a higher risk for mortality and accelerated morbidity.
She definitely needs a supervised care

hope that answers your question
In case any query feel free to question
