Have Barrett's Oesophagus And GERD. Taking Omeprazole. Suggest The Treatment?

One of my concerns is about the long term use of 20 mg Omeprazole. I have Barretts esophagus but no dysplasia so far in biopsies. I have never had real heart burn but do have GERDS. I know the proton inhibitors interfere with absorption but although I am 86 & small frame, I do not have osteoporosis, because of intense exercise program, I believe. I take quite a few meds & Aleve for arthritis, which I am wondering if it is absorbed adequately. I am getting wordy, but thanks in advance. Vanna

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It is understandable to be concerned about the possible interaction between your medication.

If the pain medication is working to relieve your discomfort then it is likely being absorbed. If there is not significant relief then your doctor can consider changing the medication.

In addition if you and your doctor are noticing satisfactory responses in the other conditions for which you use medication then there is not likely to any significant issues with their absorption either.

The proton pump inhibitor would be important to prevent any progression of the barrets.

I hope this helps
