Smoking history (COPD) and asbestos exposure are not good combination. Asbestos exposure takes about 30+ yrs to have its effect on the lung. Asbestos give rise to many lung conditions including fluid in the lung. it can cause thickening of the lung lining, cause scarring of the lung which is called fibrosis and sometime it also can cause lung cancer/mesothelioma. It is better for you to be seen by a chest physician through your local GP to undergo investigation with regard to your asbestos related lung problem. You are also entitled to compensation if you live in the western countries from the government or the company you had worked when you got exposed to asbestos.
