Hi,
Thanks for the query.
As your treating doctor must have informed you that Mirena is a hormone releasing
intrauterine device. That means it releases a
progesterone locally that does reach your blood to a small extent. Some women are sensitive to progesterone and experience adverse effects even with this small dose.
Headaches, breast tenderness and abdominal and
back pain may be due to Mirena. Usually, the amount of hormone that is released decreases over time and also women get used to this small level so the symptoms decrease or disappear after some months of use while the
contraceptive benefits remain. A simple pain killer like
aspirin can help you tide over this temporary period.
The only concern is
vaginal discharge, a small amount of discharge must not worry you but if it becomes excessive or has a offensive smell then a gynec examination for infection is needed. You have already done this so there is no need to be concerned about it now.
I suggest that you wait for some more time before you decide to remove it as the symptoms mostly decrease after a few months.
Hope I was able to help you. I am always available for any more queries.
Have a good day.
