Have T2DM Diagnosed Through DKA. Taking Lantus. Safe Remedy?

Ok Thanks
My internist is pushing Bariatric Surgery for the long term...
I have T2DM diagnosed through DKA 2.5 yrs ago. I'm currently on 17 units of lantus. I cannot take Metformin because of Lactic Acidosis. I am over weight and have only lost 50 lbs and gaing back 12 since he took me off the Metformin.

I need to make an educated decision I know some of the risks associated with this kind of surgery . Do you know of any articles that could help me make a better decision?

Hi there ~

I understand your situation and that you have problems stretching 2.5 years with type 2 diabetes mellitus. I am sorry that you cannot take metformin for your condition due to lactic acidosis. However, has your doctor considered other medications for your condition. I also think that you would make an educated decision when you visit with a nutritionist regarding medications and that you will find it interesting to draw conclusions based on what you hear. I hope this helps.

Take care and have a lovely day!
