Have A Csection Scheduled, Heart Beating Irregular Beats. Should I Be Worried If It Happens While In Surgery?

I have a csection scheduled in the next week but for a couple of weeks now my heart has been beating irregular beats really fast and hard flutters skips beats feels very uncomfortable that dont last long but have it threw out the day and night should i be worried if it happens while in surgery

Dear patient,

Thanks for the query. The most important thing is to obtain a specific diagnosis about the type of fast rhythm that you are experiencing, and whether it comes from the upper or the bottom chambers of the heart; if it does come from the upper chambers, which is more common, usually they are more benign and medications can be used to slow the pulse down if they arise during surgery; on the other hand, if the rhythm comes from the bottom chambers, then it would be more worrisome and more heart tests such as an echocardiogram would be warranted.
