Have A Painful Growth On Thumb. No Medication Till Now. What Should Be Done For This?

I have painful growth on my thumb with redness, I thought it was a wart like skin condition and bought a nightrogen freezing pack from the drug store, but was told not to treat if there is redness. What is it then? Prior buying the freezer, i tried to use a needle to remove excess top skin and hit some blood vessel twice on very surface of skin, bleeding a lot. So there definitely a very good blood supply to this thing!
