Hi, My 89 year Dad is suffering with a severe case of Bullous Pemphoid. He has had this for about 6 months and i would say 60% of his body is effected. They have tried antibiotics, steroids, topical, and I'm sure many other methods. His other health conditions play a big part in what can be done, he is a diabetic, has poor kidney function and heart arrhythmia. When he is on steroids he becomes easily agitated so they try taking him off and he goes down hill quickly so they start up again. I may add he has been hospitalized several time for dehydration due to kidney's being affected. He complains of constant burning and itching and is just miserable. Is there anything that I could possible try that could give him some relief? Thanks
Hi , Thanks for writing in. You can apply good quality moisturizer and low strength steroid. Also dapsone is a good drug which can control bullous pemphigoid as well as itching. For itching you can take tab.hydroxyzine once to thrice a day. A visit to dermatologist will allow proper examination and treatment. Hope this helps. Regards DrSudarshan MD Dermatologist
