Hello Doc,
I am 61 yrs. old 173 Cms weighing 92 Kg, I have type II DM insulin dependent, HTN since 1990. Of late I am suffering from peripheral neuropathy causing numbness to my legs, burning sensation & pain. Blood sugar & BP readings are normal. I walk daily for 1 hour covering about 5 - 7 Kms. How to get rid of numbness and improve blood circulation as I also have ED. What precautions and tests I have to undergo for stopping progression of my deterioration in health condition.

Hello,
Diabetic peripheral neuropathy ( DPN ) occurs due to the nerve damage caused by chronically high levels of blood sugar and diabetes.Along with nerve damage there is associtated blood vessels damage also.DPN leads to numbness, loss of sensations and pain in extremities.
These changes don't come overnight but tend to progress in a subtle manner making the person ignore the symptoms and take it lightly.

Although there has been considerable advances in the understanding behind the development of neuropathy but their treatment has been limited.
Along with a meticulous and tight control of blood sugar levels, treatment is aimed at reducing pain and other associated symptoms.
This is achieved by use of antidepressants like DULOXETIN ,use of anticonvulsant like PREGABALIN and a long acting opioid like TAPENTADOL.
You must discuss with your doctor to use these drugs singly or in different combinations.
I hope it helps.

There could be additional deficiencies of VIT B12 and VIT D and hence these should also be treated,by giving appropriate supplements.
I hope it helps.
Thanks
