Have Cracking Sound In Chest And Pain. What Is It?

Hello I have had a crackling sound in my chest for over 4 weeks now, also some sharp pains on the left side of my chest which only last for a few seconds, when I am lying down the only way I can clear the sound is to try and cough outwards,I don't feel unwell or have any other symptoms but the pains in my chest are getting me very worried.

Hi,

Based on the information provided it seems that you are having an issues with your heart covering called pericardium, the condition in known as "peri carditis". Peri carditis is inflammation of the heart covering commonly after some kind of flu / chest infection.

Here is what needs to be done.
1) Take over the counter pain medication like ibuprofen and it will heal on its own.
2) If no relief is achieved after taking ibuprofen then contact your physician and you will need chest-x ray and may be a echocardiogram in needed. Mostly it will be treated by antibiotics in case of any bacterial infection.

Hope it helps

Hi, Thanks for using HCM.

Crackling sound in chest is mainly due to sputum in lung alveoli or in the pathway. coughing is a protective responce of the body to remove sputum out so once you cough out sputum, your respiratory system becomes clear and no sounds. Since no other inflamatory or breatless ness symptoms, the sputum may be due to irritation caused by foreign particle (allergen, food particle or bacterial colonies)You can get done one xray PA view and if more sputum then try out Tab Paracetamol 650 mg(anti inflammatory) and syp with ambroxol (expectorant). If infection then take antibiotic. Hope you dont have any allergy symptoms. Consult your doctor for examination and management.

Hope I answered your question. Feel free to ask me if you have any further queries.
Wish you good health. Take care.

Regards
Dr. Lohit
