Have Dizziness, Tiredness, Tender Nipples And Back Pain. Pregnancy Test Negative. Period Is Late. Advice?

Could i be pregnant? Cycle 11 days late, during that time extreme tiredness, dizzy a couple days ago, cramping off and on like my cycle was coming, tender nipples, back pains, slight pain in lower abdominal area. Took 2 pregnancy test both negative. As of today just saw light brown discharge but no full cycle. Could it be a late cycle, stress , or due to extreme exercise from 4 weeks prior? Can t get in to see my OBGYN til March 4. Thanks

Hello,

First of all, you need to undergo one blood test for beta HCG along with USG lower abdomen at the earliest to confirm intrauterine pregnancy. Light brown discharge with late period may indicate early sign of miscarriage. Early pregnancy test may give false negative result.

In exclusion of pregnancy, other reasons for late period with spotting in this context are hormonal imbalance, stress/ anxiety, thyroid problem, wt gain/extreme loss, irregular eating habits, psychological factor etc.

Then, you may require some investigations to rule out underlying pathology through USG scan, thyroid profile & other hormone assay, blood sugar etc. Consult with your gynecologist and take suggestive measures.

Avoid stress / anxiety, take healthy diet with vitamin & iron supplements, eat more fruits & vegetables , drink plenty water or juice and maintain genital hygiene properly. For breast discomfort, you can wear tight support.

OBGYN Dr. Aarti Abraham's  Response
Hello
Thank you for your query.
THe symptoms you describe could well be either early pregnancy or pre menstrual symptoms.
Two negative pregnancy tests almost 99 % rule out the possibility of a pregnancy.
In absence of pregnancy, there are various causes of a scanty period.
Stress, anxiety, fluctuations in weight, thyroid disorders, polycystic ovaries, endometrial lesions - are just a few of them.
Extreme exercise is a leading cause.
You can definitely wait till you see your OBGYN.
Take care.
