Have Eye Problems. Used Drops, Did Not Help. Antibiotic Also Did Not Help. Treatment?
My husband has been having problems with his eyes for 3 months, he has seen the eye Doctor in Iowa City, (he is a Veteran) they told him 6 weeks ago he has bacteria in his eyes gave him drops and a salve to put in his eyes, Needless to say they did not get any better so they gave him and antibiotic, he has been on the antibiotic for three weeks and they still are not getting any better, he talked to the Dr. yesterday he said it would be four to six weeks before they would get better. They are not getting better, as a matter of fact there are times that he cannot see they are getting worse. I am scared he is going to loose his eye sight. What should we do.
Hi.... Thanks for the query... What were the exact symptoms he had from the beginning? Depending on the symptoms we can tell whether it was just a conjunctivitis or whether there was any corneal involvement.. If it was just a conjunctivitis it is running a chronic course which is possible some times... If there was a corneal involvement there can be some opacities or scars which may be causing visual disturbances.. Take a second opinion if required or talk to the treating doctor and express all your concerns so that you will get a clarification.. If you can give me more details I will be able to explain better.. Hope this information helps.. Take care...
Hello, It seems from the history that your husband is having chronic eye problem probably conjunctivitis as it is told in the history that he has bacteria in his eyes for which he his on antibiotic eye drops. Usually conjunctivitis will resolve over period of 1 to 2 weeks. Some highly virulent strains of become complicated to involve the cornea in the form of immunological mediated corneal inflammation or infective corneal ulcer These require treatment under strict supervision of ophthalmologist as these can become complicated and may cause diminution of vision. However nothing to worry unless the complication is corneal ulcer the condition will recover completely but it may take six weeks to 3 months as your doctor has told. Thank you
