Have Had Shingles, No Herpes, Slipped Disk Lower Back And Neck, Have Arthritis. What Is Valtrex Used For?

what all is Valtrex treated for. I do not have herpes. I have had shingles and slipped disk in my lower back and neck, I am not sure what I was given this medication for. I have arthritis, restless legs, and I forget what you call it where you ache all over AND sometimes run a fever (information somewhere in the body). Shirley

Hi,

Valtrex is an anti-viral drug used to treat viral infections, in your case Shingles. In fact, Shingles is caused by a virus which enters the herpes group called "herpes zoster".

This explains why you are taking it.

With regards to the symptoms you are mentioning, they are related to such viral infection. They will be reversed by time.

I would suggest to get some rest, get plenty of water, keep proper hygiene.

Please keep in mind that Shingles is very contagious, so be careful when in contact with others (especially children) and with clothing.
