Have High LDL. Prescribed Zocor But Taking Natural Supplements. Which Medicine Will Be Effective?

HELLO, my doctor just told me my ldl is over 200, he prescribed zocor. After reading up on statins I am very fearful, I have been doing natural things such as resversatrol, lecithin, milk thistle and garlic/nacin supplements for a few weeks, the test was done a week ago, but i was not taking the mention supplements regularly. I am now. I do 'feel' when my chlorlestral goes up (funny symptoms) so I was not surprised that it was high, i didn't expect that high. Question; can I just continue the supplements or must I take the medicine he prescribed. I also had been eating pretty badly for a couple of months stressed/lonelines, but have done some diet changes and am excercising more.

Hello
Thanks for you query. High LDL is one of the important risk factor for cardiovascular diseases. Along with medication diet and exercise is also necessary. I suggest you to for statins which are considered as highly effective, don't worry about side effects which are usually rare, not seen in all patients. We have newer statins now which are better tolerated with high efficacy. I suggest you to go for statins.
Thank you

hi,
Lipoprotein is a combination of proteins and lipids (fat). By this combination fat moves in the blood to reach the cell membrane to have its action. So Lipoprotein acts as a carrier of Fat and other enzmes also. There are different verities of Lipoproteins like LDL,HDL,VLDL and Triglycerides. Out which if High density Lipoprotein (HDL) is high in percentage it is good. If others are high it is not good. Zocor is a statin group of tab used to reduce the bad lipoprotetns and enhances good lipoprotein. Supplementary therapy results not known, where as Zocor is proved drug. Better to continue zocor, associated with diet control and exercises.
Zocor will not be cause for stress or ? loss of appetite. Regarding loneliness - change of life style will be helpful
Best wishes

Hi friend,
Welcome to Health Care Magic

You have not stated your age, gender, personal habits, family history or co-morbidities

LDL of 200 is dangerous and is most unlikely to be controlled by life style modification alone..
You say you are not compliant even in that too...

Nobody can 'feel' the cholesterol - if it is so, it is unique / the medical community may have something to learn from you!?

There is no alternative to drugs / Believe your doctor - not the uncensored sources /
Statins have been time-tested / There are drugs other than statins too! - discuss with your doctor...

Take care
Wishing speedy recovery
God bless
Good luck

Hi Brenda,
High LDL needs to be dealt seriously and you should not be taking any supplements without the knowledge of your doctor.

HIGH LDL counts have the possible following reasons:

1. Bad cooking oil.
2. High constituents of fat in diet, like butter, cashew, fried, fast food etc.
3. Excessive eating habits, like when siting idle keep on munching something or other and all that kind of stuff is generally fast food like chips, fries, burgers, cheese products etc.
4. lack of Physical activity.
5.Keeping your self either alone or sticked to television again make you less interested in doing things and you will be away from the physical activites.
6. Stress is one of the vital cause.

How to Combat HIGH LDL counts:

1. Take your medicines and diet as advised by your doctor on time.

2. Start going for some physical activity like cycling, jogging, Gyming, Swimming etc.

3. Keep yourself occupied with some productive work or get your self engaged in community work.

4. Add more of fruits and salads in your diet.

5. Avoid being alone and having fast food.

6. Identify the cause of stress and work on it, their is no problem in the world which does not have solution and to deal such situations patience and self confidence are the key. Share your problems with the people around you, a piece of advise is good at times.

7. You can also consult Homoeopathy, it is also quiet effective.

Wish you a speedy recovery to health.

Regards

Hi BRENDA. MILLER159

Sorry I don’t know your age and weight, but it seems to me you are in the right direction.
Last research shows that statins are not so effective for women.

It makes sense to do following.
Diet. No simple carbs (sugars, sweets, sodas), no wheat (bread, pasta, bagels, etc), no heated oils and “trans” fats. Eat pomegranates, apples, onion, garlic, turmeric. Eat ½ cup of oat bran every day. Drink yogurt or Kefir with living probiotics.
Regular exercises: gym, walking, dancing, yoga
A lot of water. Drink plain water, herbal teas, healing mineral water, eat vegetable soups every day
Take your supplements. Additionally, it is helpful to take vitamins B’s, C, D, B-12, B-5, Alpha Lipoic Acid, magnesium, Mega EPA/DHA, probiotics in high doses.

I see, you know how to do good thinks. Try just two months, and do follow up tests. I hope, you will see positive changes.
Good Luck
