Hello,
As far as i could make out APCOD powder is a nutritional supplement containing probably Vitamin D and other alternative medicine ingredients, the exact content and amounts could not be located by me.
It seemed okay by the little information that i got except that i would be very wary of using anything that keeps the exact ingredients a secret.
Further, its clearly stated that is is not approved by FDA for any of the uses that are mentioned.
At this point, i would like to point out that getting a FDA approval not only requires extensive research but huge money, which smaller players in the field cannot afford, even if their product is good.
Are herbal products really safe as presumed? The answers is No, in my opinion. There may be some ingredients in an 'unpolished', 'un-super filtered' product which may cause allergies and other problems. People also tend to consume larger quantities than are required.
Food, in its natural form is safe. In moderation.
Herbs that are consumed as food are safe, in little quantities.
Herbal medicine may not always be safe especially when manufacturers add unrefined heavy metals in more than minuscule proportions to the product.
APCOD powder is manufactured probably in Chennai and is available for ordering on the net, in case you so desire.
It may be better to check your Serum Vitamin D levels before you take Vitamin D supplements even though we doctors are aware that majority of Indian women are Vitamin D deficient. The question is: are you deficient.
Unnecessary Vitamin D intake can lead to toxic levels since it is not excreted from the body. However small amount intake should be fine, as maintenance doses, but i would still prefer to have my patients blood levels known.
The rest of your medicines seem fine and correct.
Check your latest Free T4 and
TSH values because strict control immediately before and during
pregnancy is important for baby.
Maybe the dose of
Metformin could be lower. Please check with your doctor.
Folic Acid or the current favourite Methyl
Folate is absolutely essential.
Check your Vitamin D levels.
Eat a good balanced diet.
All will be well.
