Have Lung Cancer. Treated With Antibiotics For Pneumonia. Good WBC Count. What To Expect?
My father is 68 year old diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer , he went for his first chemotherapy at md anderson. After a week he started developing the side effects, especialy pain sin the cancer had only jumped to his back bone. Yesterday henwas hospitalized with early symptoms of pneumonia . The pneumonia is not comunity acquired it is said to be caused by his 3 cm tumor . He is being already treated with antibiotics, and the doctor says that his white cell count is good. What to expect?
Lung cancer in stage 4 is not curable but chemotherapy is given for two purpose : first to prolong the survival by few weeks to months and secondly to palliate the symptoms.
Because of immunosuppression by tumour and to some extent by chemothery pneumonia is not unusual, but since WBC is in normal range it seems bone marrow is working properly so there is nothing to worry......has the WBC specially neutrophil has gone down, then probably GM-CSF infusion was needed, but not now....
complete the full cycle of chemotherapy and pray to god
best wishes
