Have Mitral Valve Prolapse. On Atenolol. Have Very High Heart Rate. Suggested Heart Is Lying. Problem?

I have mitral valve prolapse with regurgitation. I am currently taking atenolol as I normally have a very high heart rate. My major concern is that my cardiologist told me that my heart is lying on its side instead of sitting upright. I have never heard of this and have been unable to find any additional information about this on the internet. I am wondering what kind of problems this will cause in the future?

Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this mitral prolapse and the recent findings your cardiologist discussed wiith you.

It is uncommon to see a patient on atenolol whoo still has a very high heart rate. please talk with your doctor and make sure that you are receiving this drug at the right dosage and correctly. this should ake you have a low heart rate and not a higher one.

What does your doctor mean by your heart is lying on its side and not sitting upright? probably he was trying to put it in simpler words for or easy understanding and this has really lost its meaning in the medical world. please, ask him to put it in clear medical terms so that other professionals can try and help you with. if it is all about the position of the heart and not an abnormality, it doesn't matter. The heart would still function normally but i guess this is not the case.

I hope this helps. i wish you well and thank you for using our services. feel free to return with the precise information and request for more information on this.
Thanks.
