Have Pain In Lower Back. MRI Done. What Are The Findings In The Report?

Hello Doctor,
I have pain in my lower back from last 15 days. I got my MRI done. It shows
"There is straightening of hte lumbar spine. There are early degenerative spondylotic changes in the lumbar spine with small marginal end plate osteophytes and desiccated L4-5, L5-S1 intervertebral discs displaying hypointense signal on T2 weighted images.
The L4-5 disc shows a posterocentral annular tear. The disc shows mile diffuse bulge with focal posterocentral propensity minimally indenting the anterior thecal sac without foraminal compromise or overt nerve root impingement.
The L5-S1 disc shows mile diffuse bulge and a focal right posterocentral protrusion indenting the anterior thecal sac without causing foraminal narrowing or overt nerve root impingement.
Pre & paravertebral soft tissues are unremarkable."

Kindly advise what my report shows and what is the solution of my problem.

Hello
Thanks for writing to HCM

According to reports your have degenerative disease of spine.
1. There is straightening of lumbar spine which may be due to spasm of muscles with spondylotic changes. There are also marginal osteophytes(forms due to chronic pull on annulus fibrois). There is also dehydration of disc at L4-5, L5-S1 level.
At L4-5 level there is also posterocentral annular tear. Disc is diffusely bulged at this level with indenting of anterior thecal sac without nerve compression.
At L5-S1 level disc is also mildly diffusely bulged without nerve compression.

Treatment includes physiotherapy or surgical.
Effectiveness of both modalities are same. So,physiotherpay should be tried first. It causes strengthening of Para spinal muscles and it prevents further changes.
Surgery should be the last option.
There are also medicines available for pain relief.
Get well soon.

Take Care
