Have Recurring Cyst On Areola. How Are These Formed And Why?
Hello , I'm Not quite sure when I first developed the cyst on my areola but I know that this will be the third time it drained on its own & came back. This is Causing me to worry because once it drains, it never goes away. It shrinks in size but doesn't fully go away. My Mom is the type to push these issues aside But this is the third time. I Never spoke to my doctor because of the fear of what it may be. & I Really like to know how these are formed & why? Please & Thank you all! God bless.
Hello, I went through' your problem. Don't bother. Normally an oily substance is released in the areola for lubrication purpose by the areolar glands. These are nothing but the sebaceous glands anywhere in the body. Once its opening is blocked the gland may swell producing a cystic swelling. Once the block is removed on its own or by pressure it shrinks but may not shrink fully because of the remaining collections – which may not be removed by manual pressure. It recurs as the blocked collections are not fully removed. This is only a minor problem. But as it bothers you, tell your mom to have a discussion with a surgeon, so that the small particular gland can be fully removed without any scar. My very best wishes
