Have Small Purple Marks On Forehead And Around Eyes. What Is It?

Hi,

I woke up this morning to discover small purple marks on my face. They are on my forehead and around my eyes. They're almost like burst blood vessels or something. I'm a primary teacher and have a number of pupils off ill at the moment with slap cheek and measles. I'm quite concerned about my skin as I've never had anything like this before.

Any advice you could give me would be appreciated.

Thank you

Hi ,

Thanks for the query.

I completely understand your concern and I hope I am able to help you for the same.

Considering the type of lesions that you have developed, it looks like you have developed a lesion of Vector dermatitis, also known as Paederus dermatitis.

Paederus dermatitis is a peculiar, irritant contact dermatitis characterized by a sudden onset of red lesions on exposed areas of the body.
The disease is provoked by an insect belonging to the genus Paederus.
You need to use a steroid/ antibiotic combination cream over the lesion twice a day.
Take oral antihistamine like levocetrizine once a day.

Do not use any moisturizer over the face till the time the lesion heals .
Viral rashes usually present with rashes over cheeks bilaterally, so it is less likely to be the possibility.

Hope it helps
Wishing you speedy recovery

Hello,
I presume that it is not sun exposed freckles.
From the way you express, it does not look like infectious but looks like petechiae. This occurs due to minor hemorrhage (broken capillary blood vessels). The reasons may be many:
1) Coughing, vomiting or crying, which leads to facial petechiae, especially around the eyes.
2) Some underlying Blood disorder.
These petechiae are small in size
Anyhow you need a complete Blood investigation to rule out any Blood disorder
Treat the underlying cause if any, you will be alright
All my best wishes
