Have Toenail Fungus. Used Chlorhexidine. Can I Use Zeta Or Penlac Topical. Suggest

Hi Doctor,
I have a toenail fungus that causes peeling brittle and thick nails. I have tried chlorhexidine wash and applied the oral chlorhexidine rinse to the nail which brought some relief but does not resolve the issue. I have seen a product called Zeta which is suppose to be a natural solution, but am unsure if I should use. The product is only available online. The fungus only affects my large toe on the left foot
another product that was recommended is penlac topical 8% . Can you tell me the difference in these products and any recommended course of action, I have had this fungus for 2 years. Thanks Doreen gosha

Hello Doreen,
thanks for using health care magic.

Fungal infection of nails requires a lot of time to treat. However
treatment is effective with antifungal drugs and the outcome is
good when treatment is effectively followed.

The active ingredient in Penlac is ciclopirox. Ciclopirox has an
undoubted effectiveness in treatment of nail fungal infections
but it has to be regularly followed and for the required duration
of time. More so treatment of nail fungi has to be with both topical
drug like penlac and oral drugs such as grisefulvin.

Not sure of what zeta is and would rather not say anything about it.
Penlac 8% is good and you should consider seeing your doctor for
addition of an oral antifungal such as griseofulvin or ketoconazole etc.
Your doctor should also rule out other possible causes such as psoriasis.

Best regards.
