Having Atrial Septal Defect With Hole, Shunt. Worried About Corossion And Device Displacement. How Long Does The Complications Remain?

Hello, My husband has a Atrial septal defect with 25mm hole, and 3.3:1 shunt. We are leaning towards device closure procedure but are also afraid of teh slim cahnces of corrossion and device displacement. What are the after-care procedures to avoid these complications. Also, how long after the procedure, does the possiblity of these complications remain?

Hi Welcome to HCM ,
there is slim possibility of device displacement and corrosion but it is very less ,
must is pre procedure evaluation , TEE test is must , it is like Echo test only but doctor do it by putting a scope into mouth , and evaluate various rims available to put device , if rims are well then chances of device dispalcement will tend to zero , and chances of dispalcement will be for initial few days to weeks and as time passes chances will be tends to zero
patient has to take medicine for atleast 6 month ,
consult your cardiologist and get ASD closed ,
take care
