Having Fast Heart Rate. Getting Red Eye, Feeling Shaky, Feverish And Itchy. What May Have Caused This Sudden Change?

My heart started beating fast last evening. My eyes had become extremely red and I was feeling shaky and feverish so I put myself in bed but couldn t sleep because my eyes hurt, I felt itchy, and my heart continued to pound hard and faster than usual. I am 52 and in good health. I ve always had good blood pressure readings during any check-up. Any clues as to what may have caused this sudden change?

A fast heart beat can be a response to an infection and if you felt feverish this does seem likely even if it is just a simple virus. Inflamed eyes would go with this. But there are a lot of possibilities from your history and you do need to see a doctor for a check up. If attacks of fast heart rhythm are recurring you could have an EKG monitor to check the rhythm when this is going on. It would be helpful to know what the heart rate was when you felt it fast and if you do not know how to time your pulse you may have a friend who can show you or ask your doctor. If the heart rate is not much above 100 beats per minute it is in normal rhythm.
