Having Fatigue, Head Aches And Head Rashes. Having Hypothyroid And Heavy Menstrual Bleeding. Should I Be Concerned?

Hi Doctor, I have a ferritin level of 10 with fatigue, very poor muscle recovery, head aches, palpitations, head rushes, and Increased SOB with exercise... My serum iron, TIBC, UIBC, HBG, HCT, RBC, and vitamin B12 levels are all within or all limits. I am also hypothyroid (being treated), but have been having heavy menstrual bleeding for about 2 yrs and cycles are not regulated. Should I be concerned about about such a low ferritin level and should I correct it with oral supplements or IV iron?

Hi,
Though your hypothyroid state is being corrected through treatment, your iron levels also should be corrected simultaneously by supplements. Also, being overweight is part of the symptom complex and this in turn increases the body's need for medications; therefore, try to maintain a healthy body weight also. In addition, other causes for the heavy menstrual cycles like endometrial hyperplasia, ovarian cysts or fibroids should be excluded through a gynecological examination. Hope you find this information useful. Wish you good health.
