Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Having Heart Palpitations Which Lasts For 15mins. Is It Something Serious? Should I Be Worried About The Findings?
I've been having heart palpitations for most of my life (I'm 28 years old) which normally last about 30 seconds to 1 min. Today however I experienced one that lasted 15 mins. I hoping it is due to the following factors: did not get much sleep, was exercising, had coffee just before my exercise class... I want to know if this could potentially mean that the palpitations could be getting worse and can be something more serious or if this case may have simply been something due to the factors mentioned above?
Dear Sir/madam
Thanks for your query to HCmagic
Palpitation can have many underlying rhythms of heart. One need to know the exact rhythm before we can tell you about its causes and management.
If you ever had blackouts/ blurred vision/loss of consciousness/ vertigo associated with these palpitations, please see your cardiologist at priority.
Two steps in management of palpitation (after clinical examination) are ECG at the time of palpitation and then ECHO. (I think you should have these two tests after consulting your doctor).
Most of the benign causes of palpitation when associated with normal ECHO do not require any treatment, if symptoms are not bothersome.
Yes the three precipitants mentioned by you can increase palpitations in certain cases.
Sincerely
sukhvinder singh
