Having Noticed A Fever Of About 100 Degree After Having A Tampon

Hi. I had an surgical abortion 1 week ago. Exactly 1 week later I went into my pool and wore a tampon. About two hours later I developed a fever of 100 and am achy but there are no other symptoms. Could this be an infection from the abortion or just an ordinary illness?

OB & GYN Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

Thanks for writing to us.

Vaginal or pelvic infection should be ruled out in this context as you had undergone abortion recently and went to pool by wearing tampon.

I suggest you to undergo complete blood count and vaginal swab test to confirm the diagnosis.

You need to remove tampon at the earliest as wet tampon for long time may be the causative factor of infection.

Take paracetamol for fever and antibiotic course (like Cefixime or Ofloxacin) to reduce infection load. Maintain genital hygiene properly.

Take complete prescription from your doctor. Good luck.
