Having Purple Splotching On Ankles. Burning, Tingling Sensation And Overall Swelling. Suggestion
I'm a 39 year old man (otherwise healthy) who has purple splotching on my ankles, looks like broken blood vessels. Has not improved in two days and seemed to spread when I massaged around it. There is also a burning, tingling sensation at times and just a little bit of overall swelling. One week ago I got hit in the shin with a piece of firewood, it swelled and then went down quickly. About one month ago I had a twisting knee injury that improved after a week. These were both in the same leg as the splotching now is.
A purple colored spot around the ankle with a preceding history of trauma suggests a hematoma formation. Associated swelling favors hematoma formation. The associated burning and tingling sensation cannot be explained by hematoma. Possibily it is due to nerve injury. A hematoma resolves within one week. It changes color from red-purple/blue-green-yellow. If the discoloration remains for longer period, you need to consult your physician for blood workup especially platelet counts and other bleeding related parameters.
