Having Sharp Painful, Rash On Neck. Got Hingles Vaccine. Could This Possibly Be A Mild Case Of Chicken Pox?
Thank-you. I have had a sore, sometimes sharply painful little rash on my neck which seems to have spread from the base up to near the ear. It has kept me awake at night and is interfering with my abiity to wear some clothes. It isn't red but seems to be little bumps. I have had chicken pox in the past and got the shingles vaccine just last year (I'm 64 and female). Could this possibly be a mild case of chicken pox? Should I see my doctor? And, am I contagious?

Having Sharp Painful, Rash On Neck. Got Hingles Vaccine. Could This Possibly Be A Mild Case Of Chicken Pox?
Hi, You are having painful vesicular lesions on neck one side. It may be herpes zoster. Apply silver sulfadiazine cream on the lesions. Take antiviral like acyclovir or famcyclovir orally for 2 to 3 weeks in proper dose. Analgesics like tramadol may be taken. To prevent post herpetic neuralgia, take steroids in tappering dose. You may be alright , but, you consult dermatologist. I hope you got my answer. Thanks. Dr. Ilyas Patel MD
