Headache, Cough, Irritated Throat With Occasional Mucus Coughing Up. History Of Flu. No Relief With Streplis And Cough Syrups. Opinion?

Thank you. I have had flu about 4 weeks ago which lasted 3 weeks generally feeling under weather and headaches etc. I am now still coughing without a sore throat and particularly at nightime. I have taken 2 bottles of cough mixture over past month....strepsils but cannot shift this...occasionally mucus coughs up but feels like throat irritated constantly. Sitting up now as havent slept much...can u diagnose please. Jayne

Hi Jayne,
Thanks for your query.
A cough initiated by flu can last longer..so called post viral cough. Alternatively a super added bacterial infection may present like this and since your cough has lasted for more than a week, tuberculosis is also a possibility.
I think you must go for a chest xray and sputum examination to have an idea of ongoing pathology......

Best wishes
