I consumed large 75centilitre bottle of 36% alcohol Brandy in one night - something I do quite often. However my hangover the next day was vicious and resulted in severe frontal headache which only today (SIX days later) is starting to subside. I have never experienced such a long hangover lasting nearly a week so is there a reason for this besides the obvious initial trigger ?
Hello and welcome to Healthcare Magic. Thanks for your query.
Headache could be a withdrawal symptom of alcohol dependence. The severity of withdrawal symptoms often depend on the level of alcohol consumption. In your case, you seem to be taking high amounts of alcohol, which could be the reason for the protracted headache.
However, there can be other co-existing causes like electrolyte imbalance or other metabolic abnormalities (which are frequently seen in excessive alcohol use) which could cause a worsening or persistence of the headache. So, if your headache is persistent, then I would suggest that you have a proper medical evaluation in order to rule out any other underlying medical problems.
Wish you all the best.
