Headache, Severe At Night After Closing Eyes. Cure For Symptoms?

Hi Dr,

My mother has been getting very severe headaches recently. She feels relief with a cold compress which she needs constantly and paracetamol helps her somewhat but the headaches seem to be constant especially at night when she closes her eyes. She has been feeling this way for a few days now and I'm getting concerned. We went to our local GP and he prescribed migraine pills but they do not seem to be working. Her head gets very hot but the rest of her body is at normal temperature.

Thank you

Hello,
welcome to Healthcare Magic.

Headache can be caused by several medical conditions. Try to find out precipitating factors and associated symptoms with headache in her case which will help in finding cause of headache.

Common precipitating factors for headache and migraine:
-Stress and anxiety: Stress or psychological upset was the commonest triggering factor
-High blood pressure
-ENT infection
-Glaucoma
-Increasing physical activity
-change in weather
-fasting
-Sunlight

Relieving factors:
-NSAID medicines
-Sleep

Before diagnosing migraine. It is better to get yourself evaluated by general physician/neurologist to rule out other causes of headache (specially high blood pressure) and then seek consultation according to his recommendation.

As she is having headache mostly in evening then there is need to rule out glaucoma in her case by ophthalmologist.

Wishing her good health and all the best.

Hi welcome to Health care magic forum.
Thanks for calling H.C.M.Forum.
your mother getting severe headache, getting relief with cold compress, more when she closes eyes. migraine pills didn't work, head is fast, and body of normal temperature.
The causes of headache are sinusitis, anxiety, migraine ischemic conditions of brain etc.
First of all i advise you to consult an E.N.T.surgeon for diagnosis and treatment. If nothing is found consult a neurologist he will treat you For either ischemia, or anxiety what ever is suspected. You may need to have M.R.I.besides other routine tests for confirmation.
Wishing for a quick and complete recovery.
Best regards.
