Heart Stroke, Losing Weight. Hemoglobin Less Than 7. Any Suggestions?
my mother is 83, she recently had a small stroke and was in the hospital the hemoglobing was less than 7 they gave her two pints of blood ; her heart was ok, but now even though she is eating she is losing weigt they dont know why, the doctor send her to the institute of cancer for blood test, and Idont understand why. Can you help me?
Haemoglobin level of 7 is an indication for blood transfusion...Anaemia needs further investigations - to search for a cause... otherwise, the situation will recur.
The most common cause of weight loss - especially in association with anaemia - at this age is cancer... Therefore, all attempts are made to investigate extensively to find it out - one should not miss a treatable cause... and hence the referral
Take care
Wishing speedy recovery
God bless
Good luck
