Heart Transplant/Diabetes
With previous 4 bypass surgeries 10 years ago and today 3 main arteries are 100 percent closed with 2 bypass remaining open at 50-60% closed. I have visited multiple doctors and my diabetes seems to complicate the issue. The diabetes is currently under control and my weight is 145 and I am 53 years old. Never smoke. Never drink. I am heading to Stanford medical center tomorrow for a check up and other tests to see what my options are. I am thinking a heart transplant will be recommended. If a transplant is recommended what are my options and chance of success? Also, are there any other recommendations? Thank you very much in advance.

heart transplant have certain criteria like a cut off age, absence of co morbidities etc.
diabetes is a major co morbid illness which can hinder the success of the transplant as diabetes increases the chance of infection.
the panel will review the case an if you will be recommended transplant then the glycemic control has to be maintained .

A heart transplant is done only if the pumping efficiency of your heart is reduced to a level where you cannot survive for lung without a transplant. (Ejection fraction
Depending on the anatomy of the blocked grafts and the native coronary anatomy, it may be possible to do angioplasty/stenting to some of the blocks to relieve the ischemia. Sometimes, a redo CABG may be possible if conduits are availabe (veins/arteries which can be used to bypass the blockages).
There are also medicines which can be optimized to improve your cardiac function
